Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Chile
July 13, 2013 – We slept very well in our bed and breakfast…we arrived for breakfast at our first morning very early…I don’t think our host was very amused, but she served us a wonderful breakfast of cereal, fruit, meat, cheeses, juice and pastry….It was a great night of sleeping; the bed and room were very comfortable.
There are sooooo many dogs in Chile. dogs everywhere. When were just driving into the city, there was a poodle laying on the top of a car… Like I mentioned before, they bark all night long…the twilight bark….. Luckily, so far they are not keeping us awake at night.
Today we went on a private wine tour to the Casablanca Valley and we met a new best friend named Mauricio. He is the expert on Chilean wines in the area…. He is so much fun and hilarious. A great contact for future trips as he has traveled the entire country many times and has numerous contacts from the extensive knowledge of the 13 wine regions and to helicopter fly fishing trips in remote areas of Patagonia.
We visited three wineries….Emiliana, House of Moronde and RE. At the second winery Mauricio paired some outstanding wines with gourmet Chilean dishes and we had a delicious lunch to accompany our wines. He is quite the character and had us laughing the entire time. He has so much knowledge of Chile, the wineries, the fishing, real estate, local sights and his government. At the third winery I was pretty much liquored up…….
Tomorrow he will show us the city of Santiago and another winery in the inland Maipo Valley known for their great red wines. We will definitely contact him in the future for info on fishing in Pantagonia and life in the south of Chile….
So far, so good. We are relaxed, happy and ready to move on to more of what this beautiful country has to offer…
Hi Patsy! Happy Birthday XOXO!!

Sounds like you guys are having a great time and why am I not surprised Sharon that you are enjoying the vino–ha. If you move, I am coming down to visit so get a granny flat ready.
Tonight gave communion at mass and it was the mass I had said for your mom, Sharon. They read Barb’s name out loud–brought back memories.
Love your memos to us and the pix are great.

Ron, you jackass, you have to hit the POST COMMENT button every time.
Share: what a great trip. Damn. Please ask Mauricio to consider starting a new hunting tour: Valparaiso Guided Urban Dog Hunting Tours. A revenue generator, tourist service and public service all wrapped into one. It’s a Win, Win, Win. You know, except for the dogs.
Ron, remember: POST COMMENT. Jackass.
