July 21, 2013 – Well we literally froze our asses off last night. It was so cold we couldn’t even get out of bed until around 9 am. We got up and tried to get cleaned up but the water would not get warm… at all. We had the shower, kitchen and bathroom sink all going at once for about 30 minutes….finally, we used the boiler and heated up some water and had a bath the old fashioned way….spit bath. We even tried to warm the place up with the stove on. Stupid little cabana….and Wayne hit his head really hard on the ceiling beams upstairs twice…..and dogs barked alllll….night…longgg. Ugh.
We got to breakfast in the hotel restaurant close to 10….it ended at 10 Too cold to get up…. We were shown to a table and brought some toasted bread/jam, cookies, 3 small slices of ham and 3 small slices of cheese and coffee. We weren’t offered anything else. That was 12 dollars….what a rip off. We checked out a day early and decided to find another hotel. Can’t wait to review that place…such a cute place but it is gonna get a horrible review.
Even though the day started off bad, it ended up being a great day. We drove around Lago Ranco, which was very beautiful. We encountered some beautiful countryside, another beautiful waterfall, Chilean cowboys on horseback, team of huge yoked oxen coming onto the road, volcanoes, rivers and mountains. While traveling around the lake we came suddenly upon some dirt roads. They were doing roadwork on several particular areas of the road, but since it was Sunday the men were not working. This made for interesting travel for us on these skinny little dirt road because in several areas it narrowed down to only one lane and there was no one there to direct the flow of traffic. At one point we encountered a tour bus on this road…what the heck is a tour bus doing way the heck out there?? There were also so many sharp rocks on the road and here we come with our bald tires…we have been so lucky. It was very slow going and since it was Sunday we couldn’t find anything open for lunch, so we dug in our bags for leftover, bread, cheese, salami, crackers, olives and tangerines…what a feast!
We arrived to the town of Osorno about 5 pm and checked into our room. It was a nice hotel…with english speaking employees! AND a bellhop! AND an elevator! Wooohoooo! It was so cold outside at 1 degree Celsius…brrr. It felt good to have a nice comfy warm room. We felt pampered. The tour books that we have said Osorno was boring….a business day in Osorno feels like a Sunday, and Sundays feel like a national day of mourning. We found it to be just fine. We ate a nice dinner at the hotel and came back to our warm room to blog, go through pics and plan our next days adventure.

Wayno: It appears that you have found the limits to the range of temperatures within which you are comfortable. Also, please shoot the dogs already.

Good to hear from you guys …. hope you have thawed out. That is miserable to be so cold you can’t get out of bed :). Sounds like you have been pretty lucky overall though with fairly decent accommodations. Keep blogging, I’m really enjoying it and the pictures. What an amazing place with lots of adventure. Nice job with the pictures. Make sure you get lots of pictures with your mugs in them too. Have fun! Love you guys.
