Santiago, Chile
July 12, 2013 – Well….we made it to Santiago, Chile. The red eye flight was rough for sleeping…ugh. So hard to sleep sitting mostly upright. It was very easy getting through customs though. No problems there.
The rental car is a different story. It is an older model Nissan mini 4×4. The tires are pretty worn and there is no USB port in the car . We added a WiFi hot spot that we paid extra for, however it does not create a hotspot for our phones…only to the device that it is plugged into (Wayne’s computer…which does not have a long battery life). So our contact may be a little patchier than we hoped for. Luckily, we added a GPS so we know where we are going.
The drive out of Santiago was reminiscent of a glorified version of Mexico, except the shanty towns were much nicer. There was construction happening in one part of the freeway and there were workers walking freely around. No warnings or caution signs were around to warn us of men working in the road. There was one random man in the road on his hands and knees gluing reflectors on the road. CRAZY …good thing we saw him and did not decide to make a lane change at that exact moment….haha!
On our way out of Santiago toward the coast to Vina del Mar the scenery became lush and green with many vineyards and trees. It was so beautiful. We happened upon some lovely wineries and decided to stop at one. It was called Vino Indometa and we walked around and tasted some of their offerings.. which were excellent. Unfortunately, for my driver (Wayne), Chile has a zero tolerance law for drinking and driving so his sips were “Muy poquito”. The limit here is 0.03 BAC. Not to worry though. Wayne had his small sips and I finished the rest for him…hehe.
More later…xoxo

Oh, I just saw the map above that shows all the places that you’re going to go. So ignore that question about where are all the places that you plan to go. Also, why are all the names in Spanish?

I realize now that I forgot to post my first comment on this section. It was a series of questions that I mostly answered myself by actually looking at this blog site. Apparently, when they designed this site they anticipated a lot if the stuff that I already want to know. Huh. Who knew? However, they forgot to anticipate these two questions: was the wine any good? Are you going fly fishing? Hurry up and blog. I’m bored on my vacation. Want something to read. Wait. Where the hell are my kids.
